What it does

When to use it

  • You are low on blood and do not know anyone's blood type
  • As the safe default whenever you are unsure
  • While recovering from a hemolytic reaction

What it does NOT treat

warning
  • The bleeding causing the blood loss — bandage first
  • Infections or viral illness
  • Unconsciousness directly

Important notes

  • Requires an IV Start Kit
  • Slightly slower than a blood bag, but it can never trigger a reaction
  • If in doubt, always choose saline over blood
